The City Government of Sorsogon intensifies its campaign against
Dengue to prevent further outbreaks. Information education campaigns
(IEC) thru radio announcements and Dengue Forums in every barangay
to increase awareness are being done by the City Government of
Sorsogon thru the City Health Office. A city wide massive clean-up
drive is also initiated by the Liga ng mga Barangay. Identified
hotspots in the Barangays of Bibincahan and Caricaran are receiving
bouts of mist sprays to eliminate mosquito larvae and entomological
tests are being done to quantify the abundance of the dengue causing
mosquito.
The Rapid Dengue Test (RDT) of patients admitted in various hospitals within the city shows 491 confirmed cases of Dengue in Sorsogon City from January 2019 to July 6, 2019 escalating on the months of May and June. The highest cases recorded were in Bibincahan (East), Caricaran (Bacon), San Juan Roro (East), Poblacion (Bacon), Balogo and Balete (Bacon).
The high prevalence of dengue this year may be attributed to the natural cycle of dengue which peaks every three (3) years. However, the strains present in the city this year are severe—Strain II and Strain III; with Strain II being the culprit for most dengue occurrences in the city.
